March 29th, Tulsa celebrated Arbor Day and the city’s 25th anniversary as a Tree City USA. Held at McCLure Park, we welcomed the community and over 150 students from Dove Science Academy to plant 25 trees to the park’s landscape. City Urban Forester, Dave Zucconi kicked off the celebration and was followed by Mark Bays, State Urban Forest Coordinator, and John Harper of Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO), who sponsored the tree planting as part of their own 25th anniversary as a Tree Line USA. Mayor Bynum then issued the Arbor Day proclamation, and reiterated the dedication our city, and it’s citizens, have to a healthy and growing urban forest. As groups of energetic students picked up shovels and rakes, they circled each tree, learning how to properly plant trees, the benefits they bring to our community, and how they are maintained. Thanks to the partnership of the City of Tulsa, PSO, and Up With Trees, McClure Park now has 25 healthy and growing young trees. Visit the park this spring and view the anniversary trees in full bloom.
