Commemorative Trees

Be a part of Tulsa’s Citizen Forest!  Most people are familiar with the large Up With Trees plantings along streets and highways, but did you know that you can also sponsor individual trees at many locations around town, leaving a legacy of beauty to the community? A tree can be a thoughtful memorial to a loved one who has died, a way to celebrate a new birth, a graduation or other special event, or a simple gift of beauty to the community.

Up With Trees can plant individual trees at several locations around Tulsa. Up With Trees has several Commemorative Arbor Gardens. The primary Arbor Garden is at the JD Metcalfe Recreation Area at 12th Street and Mingo Road. This 42-acre, peaceful park-like setting - created as part of the flood control work along Mingo Creek - features a scenic fishing pond, winding trails, benches, and a variety of plants and wildlife. We also have a site at BS Roberts Park at 1000 N. Greenwood Ave., adjacent to the OSU-Tulsa campus near downtown, and commemorative trees can be planted in four City of Tulsa Parks - Hunter, 5804 E. 91st St.; Manion, 3003 E. 56th St.; Berry, 5002 N. Wheeling Ave.; and Carbondale, 2802 W. 48th St.

A commemorative tree costs $300 each. Since Up With Trees is a 501(c)(3), your gift is tax-deductible.

When you give a tree through Up With Trees, a plaque bearing the name of the honoree will be placed under the tree and will indicate the species of the gift tree. Each tree is planted in scenic areas or along jogging/walking paths, providing easy access to view the commemorations. Your recipient will receive a letter announcing your gift, and you will receive an acknowledgment letter.

To sponsor a commemorative tree, please complete the form below and send it along with a check for $300 per tree to Up With Trees, PO Box 470833, Tulsa, OK 74147-0833. You can contact us at 610-TREE or for more information.

Memorial Donations
Often family members will designate that donations may be made to Up With Trees in honor of someone who has died. If we have not been contacted in advance, when we receive these donations unless the donor indicates otherwise we will assume that the funds are to be used to support overall Up With Trees programs. We will send thank you letters to the donors and if, contact information is provided, will send an acknowledgement to the family of the person being honored letting them know that a donation has been made.

If a group of people want to come together to sponsor a tree or a tree site in honor of someone, they have two ways to do that:

1. Collect the money from various people and submit it to Up With Trees all together. In this instance, we will work with the designated organizer to determine site, wording on the sign, etc., and we will provide one acknowledgement letter for tax purposes, to whomever made the contribution from us. We cannot send acknowledgements to people who do not give us the money directly.

2. After making arrangements with Up With Trees to establish a fund for a memorial, an organizer can encourage people to send the donations directly to us. The donations must include notation that they wish funds to be used for the memorial or they will be applied to our overall effort. For all donations sent directly to us, we will send thank you letters that can be used for tax purposes. Once donations have been collected, we will contact the organizer to determine what type of memorial this funding will allow (a single tree, a 20-tree site, etc.); signage, if appropriate; location, etc. Any excess money over the sponsorship amount will be applied to UWT general programs.
