News and Events: Free Trees for Non-profit & Faith-based Organizations

Posted: Thursday, March 26th, 2009

Thanks to a generous grant from Apache Foundation, we are providing trees at no charge to local non-profits, government agencies and faith-based groups that would like to plant trees on their property. The trees have been delivered and can be picked up from a holding facility PSO has donated to us at 36th & Elwood. We have 2 species available: the glorious red maple and beautiful flowering Cleveland select pear. These trees are a bit smaller than we normally plant along highways, but are still good-sized — most are 4-6 feet tall.

We are making these trees available on a first-come, first-served to non-profits, government agencies and faith-based groups (including private schools, neighborhood associations and churches) that wish to plant them on their facility’s property as long as the organization commits to maintaining the trees. If necessary, we can provide a short session on how to plant and care for trees. The groups are responsible for the planting, although we can support the effort by lending tools, etc., if needed. We are encouraging those interested to make arrangements to pick up and plant as soon as possible, it would be best to get these trees in the ground by the end of April.

If you are part of a non-profit group, a government agency, a faith-based group, a public or private school, etc., that is in need of trees for its facility that might be interested, please invite them to contact Up With Trees Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator, April Woodul, for more information at April@upwithtrees.org or 610-8733.  Please find the 2009 Apache Foundation Free Tree Application HERE, you may mail, fax or give it to us when you pick up your trees.  We would greatly appreciate pictures or press materials of your planting event to incorporate into a “Thank you!” to Apache Foundation.
